Gulhi is located in South Malé Atoll and a speedboat trip to Gulhi from the capital Malé takes just 30 minutes and cost only 100 MVR for Maldivians and Residents for one way, and 20 USD for tourists (Some speedboat operators 25$ ). Perhaps staying in a luxury island resort in the Maldives limits your connection with the locals and discover their way of life, which you will find in Gulhi. At the same time, it will give you a better opportunity to discover the local Maldivian culture. You will see how the locals eat, interact and live on a daily basis…
There are over 1,000 islands that make up the Maldives, with such a huge number of resorts to chose from. When I was planning my trip I knew that in addition to doing a week long liveaboard, I wanted to also relax and enjoy island life for a few days. In the beginning of the trip I wanted to choose an “easy” island to get to, that doesn’t require another flight just in case I had delays getting into the country. I used Booking.com to find a resort, and unsurprisingly I just wanted to make sure I could stay in a private room, close to the beach, that was cheap. I actually first booked a room on Gulhi Island, I looked on their Instagram account and saw they had a beautiful private beach, so I booked it.
The Maldives is a honeymooner’s dream come true with its pristine white sandy beaches, vibrant corals, and clear blue lagoons. You can bask in the sun or indulge in an exciting water sports activity. In the evenings, head out for a romantic dinner on a yacht or have a candlelight dinner at one of the numerous restaurants available.
Like many small, local islands in the Maldives, there are a range of water activities to do and not much else!
